This will probably be the last PLE specific post for a couple weeks. I’ve just finished posting all of the following on WebCT:
- The readings for Monday (the studies), Wednesday (easements), and the week after spring break (charity). The last is a link to a large PDF file – let me know if there’s any confusion.
- A link to an optional reading under FYI with more details about the legal responsibilities of nonprofit organizations. I thought this might be helpful for those of you thinking about writing on NPOs.
- Another pro forma PDF – this one with the example we’re walking through in class. I don’t send the excel file because it has all the equations pre-coded. If there’s interest in walking through how to use Excel to do that, let me know. It’d only take a couple minutes to explain.
- Last but not least, an assignment where you can turn in your preliminary work for your rehab projects that’s due next Wednesday. Given that there are 7 undergrads and 11 grads, at least one group will be mixed, so get to know your neighbor on Monday if you don’t have a partner yet.
There won’t be a PowerPoint Monday, but there will on Wednesday.
See you next week!

Hello all.
Your Uploading Practice has been returned. Remember – the only acceptable formats are .doc, .pdf, and .ppt. (Grad students and PLE students, see me if you need to use something different so we can discuss compatibility.)
PLE students – two things.
- Your Practical Exercise #1 (PrEx1) will be returned by Monday, midday, if not sooner. I’ll post here when I return them, but in the meantime, please remember to look before class so we can deal with any questions you feel comfortable sharing in class on Monday.
- Your readings for all of next week are up – DOTA, NEPA, and Dole.
Thanks! I’m staying home tomorrow to grade but will be in on Friday.

The readings for this week are posted for PLE, but the PowerPoint will likely not be posted until midday Monday. Have a good weekend!
2:30 update – the link has been released for the E.O. – that was my fault. Just give it a quick look over.

Sorry if anyone was looking for the AA 1906 and HSA 1935 reading before now – I thought I had put it up already. The PowerPoint for tomorrow is also up.
See you in class!

Hello again.
For everyone, I’ve recently added a link (on WebCT under Tech Tips) to the common abbreviations that I use when editing / grading your papers electronically. I’ll add other marks as I begin to use them or if you have any suggestions.
In Urban Planning today, I talked about a variety of free online tools, all available through WebCT, but for your reference, they included:
- GoogleDocs – docs.google.com – where you can create or upload and edit word processing docs, spreadsheets, and presentations, and even save them in other formats. Use it to turn WP or OpenOffice files into MS Word or Adobe PDF.
- Flickr – www.flickr.com – “like YouTube for pictures”, Flickr allows you to upload your photos and does the compression and resizing for you. This is useful if your file is too large to upload to WebCT.
- Creative Commons – www.creativecommons.org – where you can search Flickr, Yahoo, Google, and other picture sites for licensed pictures available for your use in papers or theses, etc. You can also use it to protect your own work. there’s more about CC licenses here.
- Delicious – del.icio.us – an online bookmarking site. My links for classes are here.
